There is a lot of joy in transforming a gnarly, knobbly, beaten around burl. This particular burl is Red Beech from the South Island. It was bouncing around a southern river before it found a home in Grey Lynn.
Truthfully, it was a birthday present as a blank piece of wood which was gratefully accepted and turned into a large domestic bowl. The only colouring given was a ceiling of the edges, ebonised to black, with no additives and finished with a food safe material.
Such burls are welcomed with joy and put up for view or sale whenever possible.
Commission work is undertaken and clients are welcome to provide their own sourced wood.
