Verandah Post carving

Verandah Post carving

A long-term interest in carving, one of my first loves in woodwork. I am fortunate to be able to combine two great woodworking enjoyments; woodcarving and wood turning here.

New Zealand sourced timber:
There is a strong preference working in a native woods. The Kauri piece in the photos was a front verandah post recovered from a house that was over 100 years old. Wonderful wood to carve and turn.

My carving comes in all shapes and sizes. The work is one piece of wood with texture from Pyrographic ebonising, a forerunner to my Pacific textures style and great fun to work with. Started and shaped on the wood turning lathe, handcarved, with a base finished on the lathe.
